Brief History of PlayStation Series

Sony Computer Entertainment developed and created a series of video game consoles known as the PlayStation.
On December 3, 1994, PlayStation was initially launched in Japan with the debut of the original console. The PlayStation is the first console in the series that the company had introduced. This is also the first video game console that distribute 100 million units within nine years and six months after it was first introduced in the market.
PlayStation 2, which is the successor of the first series debuted in the market last 2000 and it is the best-selling home console to date as it reached more than 150 million units sold as of January 31, 2011. Moreover, in 2006, Sony Computer Entertainment released the third series of this video game console, which is the PlayStation 3 and sold more than 80 million units across the world.
On the other hand, PSP, which is the initial handheld game console in the series of PlayStation, has sold a whopping 71.4 million units around the globe as of September 14, 2011. Vista, which is the successor of PSP, was released on December 17, 2011 in Japan and it was released on other major areas on February 2012. Before the month of February ended, it has sold an additional 1.2 million units.
In addition, the PlayStation Network is an online service with more than 90 million members and users across the world. This statistic is as of March 7, 2012, which means that it will have been increased by now. It also consists of an online virtual market that can let you download and buy games and other types of multimedia.
For me, the series of video game console of Sony has been one of the most successful in the industry, as they created a gaming console that enjoyed by millions of people in the world. The PlayStation has been in the market for 19 years, but it is still one of the best-selling consoles up to these days. With the innovation that the company does with the PlayStation series, it is no wonder why it has been the one of the leading brands today.
